Richard Hawley’s sixth studio album, Truelove’s Gutter, is set to be released on Mute on September 21st. Recorded in Hawley’s hometown of Sheffield at Yellow Arch studios, Truelove’s Gutter is a testament to his intoxicating song writing talents with eight new classic compositions.
The first track to be taken from the album will be the single, For Your Lover Give Some Time, available digitally from 10th August. The single is a bittersweet vignette depicting internal tensions in a perennial love affair, has Richard singing a confessional lyric over a light-footed arrangement of cello and violin. It is easily the most humorous track on the album, with a hint of the biting Gallic sarcasm of a Brel or Gainsbourg.
Richard explains, “I think this is a fairly honest and slightly wry look at lovers, as time goes by, especially long term relationships. It’s a warning not to take things for granted – now and again you should buy a bunch of flowers randomly. Don’t let the calendar push your buttons. Don’t buy flowers just on Valentine’s Day. It’s just being honest about the way love changes.”
