Wiggle play a home gig in the Pavilion, Cork, after a busy summer of festivals and recording their second album. As technology is evolving so too is the Wiggle soundscape. New dub FX and samplers influence rhythms of lucid dance beats and sub bass effects with the careful improvisation from an ever increasing library of wiggle melodies and songs.
Wiggle are best seen live and play for the dancer within. Wiggle gigs are like entering an ever evolving sonic landscape; their songs segue and flow into one another. It’s an electronic rhythm riot, part entrancing mash-up, part swirling voyage that makes their every gig an extraordinary event not to be missed.
The Wiggle line-up:
Toby Eaton operates the sequencers (Roland 505, Yamaha rs7000, Korg Kaoss pads ) and characteristically purveys his positive lyrical message through his lead vocals that are awash with digital effects that he manipulates live. Toby also operates other sonic devices such as sirens and effects processors.
Colm Rooney plays electric guitar through a chain of effects pedals and loopers. He also operates samplers with which he composes a dreamlike mix of guitar and ambient sound.
Rory McGovern plays mainly synthesizers but likes to dabble with other instruments such as trumpet and melodica from time to time. On his assortment of synthesizers Rory creates dub rhythms, ethereal melodies and wobbly bass sounds.
Jon Jon Conway plays the bass guitar. He grooves deep sub bass lines and improvises freely in tangent with the rest of the band.
Jim Conway aka VJ Present, operates the live visuals that accompany and embellish wiggle performances. He improvises a mish mash of moving images that change and pulsate as the music unfolds.
Wiggle has also been known to host guest vocalists such as the legendary Harry J, Cian Finn and MC Rungus.
