Wiggle
Sorry, this event has already taken place...Wiggle, Cork’s electro dub wizards began in 1999 when a jam session in a small sushi restaurant in Cork city resulted in the formation of the band. Through their creative promotion and quirky artwork they soon became well known locally and as the years passed, Wiggle found themselves playing in all corners of Ireland. Wiggle can be seen performing at many underground festivals, parties and gatherings from the hills of west Cork to the mountains of Kerry, to a field in Roscommom or a beach in Mayo. Wiggle have consistently performed in their home town Cork since their formation and also perform in Dublin, Galway and Limerick regularly.
How do wiggle create their music? There are five artists that create a wiggle show.
Toby Eaton operates the sequencers (Roland 505, Yamaha rs7000, Korg chaos x) and characteristically purveys his positive lyrical message through his lead vocals that are awash with digital effects that he manipulates live. Toby also operates other sonic devices such as sirens and effects processors.
Colm Rooney plays electric guitar through a chain of effects pedals and also triggers samples and operates effects processors. Colm composes a dreamlike mix of analogue and digital sounds that entice the listener.
Rory McGovern plays mainly synthesizers but likes to dabble with other instruments such as trumpet and melodica from time to time. On his assortment of synthesizers Rory creates dub rhythms, ethereal melodies and wobbly bass sounds.
Jon Jon Conway plays the bass guitar. He grooves deep sub bass lines and improvises freely in tangent with the rest of the band.
Jim Conway operates the live visuals that accompany and embellish wiggle performances. He improvises a mish mash of moving images that change and pulsate as the music unfolds.
Wiggle have also been known to host guest vocalists such as the legendary Harry J , Cian Finn, and MC Rungus
Wiggle bring a strong energy to their performances. It is perhaps this high energy atmosphere that inspires infectious dancing and movement at wiggle shows. Their performances are musical journeys that are also visually pleasing, you can see the music unfold in front of you, created live on an array of instruments all embellished by live visual projections.
